One Body Check-In That Changes Everything
A 30-second practice that rebuilds trust with your body.
You have more hours of daylight this week than almost any other. The sun is up early, stays late. What if you used five of those minutes for yourself?
I’m going to teach you something so simple it almost sounds useless. But it’s one of the most powerful things you can do for your body.
It’s called a body check-in. And it takes about 30 seconds.
Here’s how it works:
Stop. (Yes, right now. You can finish reading, but in a moment, you’re going to stop.)
Put your hand on your heart. Or your belly. Wherever feels right.
And ask: What do I need right now?
Don’t think about it too hard. Just listen. What comes up?
I need water. I need rest. I need to move. I need a break. I need to stretch. I need food. I need a breath. I need five minutes.
That’s it. You’re not supposed to fix it immediately. You’re not supposed to turn your whole life upside down based on one answer. You’re just acknowledging: My body is asking for something, and I heard it.
That’s the whole practice.
I started doing this once a day. In the morning, before I do anything else. Hand on my heart: What do I need right now? And I listen for the answer.
Some days it’s sleep. Some days it’s movement. Some days it’s food. Some days it’s gentleness. My job isn’t to be surprised or judge the answer. My job is just to hear it.
And here’s what happens: Once you start listening to the small signals, your body starts trusting you again.
This is the thing people miss. Your body isn’t asking for crazy things. It’s not asking you to overhaul your life. It’s asking for: water, rest, food, a moment to breathe, a walk, a pause. Basic stuff. Human stuff.
But those small asks have been ignored for so long that your body learned to stop asking clearly. So when you finally start answering the small asks — yes, drink water; yes, take the break; yes, rest — something shifts.
Your body realizes: She’s listening. I can trust her with my needs.
And when your body trusts you, you stop running on fumes.
Here’s your assignment this week: Do one body check-in every day. That’s it. Same time, same place if possible (to make it a habit). Hand on your heart or your belly. Ask: What do I need right now? Listen for the answer. Don’t overthink it.
You don’t have to act on every signal. You don’t have to become a wellness guru. You just have to hear it.
Because here’s what I know: The women who are burning out aren’t the ones listening to their bodies and acting on what they hear. They’re the ones who stopped listening a long time ago.
Start listening again. Your body will meet you there.
Your body isn’t asking for a complete overhaul. It’s asking for water, rest, food, and a moment to breathe. Start by listening to those small asks.
What does your body need right now? Right this second? Listen and tell it yes.
