Five of My Favorite Books I've Read This Year
Discover my top five favorite books of the year that will empower your personal growth journey, enhance work-life balance, and provide valuable insights for success.
Here we are! At the halfway point of 2024. Earlier this year, I used a Christmas gift card to make a purchase that has completely changed how I spend my free time. I bought a Kindle! I have always been a reader—since I was a little girl, I have found so much joy in getting lost in a story and the endless opportunities to learn something new in a book. As an adult, I find myself gravitating towards self-help, non-fiction, and memoir books mostly. However, there's one exception—I couldn't resist rereading Harry Potter. I am a big fan, and there has been no greater joy than revisiting the entire series with my husband and 9-year-old son.
Since receiving my Kindle, I have swapped newsfeeds for book reads and have devoured 49 books this year—far exceeding my goal of 30-35 books read in previous years. Today, I want to share with you five of my favorite books that have made a significant impact on me so far.
Seven Primal Questions: Mike Foster
Once I discovered my question, its impact on my life has been on my mind constantly. So when I stumbled upon Seven Primal Questions by Mike Foster, it immediately caught my attention. This reflective inventory is an easy tool for self-improvement and contemplation. As a mental health counselor, I currently use this concept and recommend the book to all my clients. It's incredible how answering these questions can unlock insights about ourselves and guide us toward personal growth.
The Creative Cure: Jacob Nordby
Let me tell you about one of the best books I have ever read— The Creative Cure by Jacob Nordby. This book is incredibly well-written and provides ample opportunities for reflection and education. It not only inspired me but also introduced me to practical activities that I plan to use for many years to come. While reading, I found myself highlighting a lot of content, and I didn't want the book to end. Thank you, Jacob, for putting this work out into the world. I will be rereading and referencing this book for many years to come.
We Should All Be Millionaires: Rachel Rodgers
We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers is truly inspiring and thought-provoking. Rachel's teachings resonated deeply with me, and I loved them so much that I deliberately slowed down to savor each chapter filled with valuable content. This book is a must-read for all women, especially business owners and corporate leaders. Rachel has become one of my favorite authors, and I'll definitely be rereading and sharing this book often!
What My Bones Know: Stephanie Foo
Prepare yourself for a life-changing experience while reading What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo. Stephanie's story is incredibly powerful, and as a reader, I was instantly drawn in. This book chronicles her journey of unraveling the layers of her life—from being an abused child and teenager to becoming a member of her community, an adult, and a woman on a path of healing. Many of the themes and experiences she shared were so similar to my own that I couldn't rush through this book. Instead, I took the time to reflect and appreciate each and every chapter. Trust me when I say this book—it's unlike anything I've ever read. I will recommend it to every survivor of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).
Disentangling From Emotionally Immature People: Lindsay Gibson
Last but not least, let me introduce you to Disentangling From Emotionally Immature People by Lindsay Gibson. This book is a gem for anyone working towards personal growth and healing in their relationships. We've all encountered emotionally immature individuals in our lives, and this book offers valuable insights on how to deal with such situations. The writing is well-structured and inspirational, providing validation for your experiences, educational tips on moving on from past and present issues, and empowering guidance for building healthy relationships in the future.
